ABCs to fertility coaching: what is a fertility coach and how can they help

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

What’s the first thing you think of when someone says “fertility treatment?"

  • Twins?

  • Drugs?

  • Needles?

  • $$$?

  • Failure?

  • Unnatural?

Those were all the negative connotations that came to my mind the moment I was referred to a fertility clinic.

And if I could go back in time, I would have erased every single one of those scary, uneducated thoughts from my brain and instead filled them with:

  • Love

  • Trust

  • Process

  • Success

  • Natural

Going through fertility treatment deserves special care of your body and special care of your emotions. Yes, the path to parenthood might not go as you once planned…and guess what, that’s okay! But what’s not okay is the idea that you have to go through the process stressed out and feeling alone.

Doctors, nurses, and reproductive endocrinologists all have a job to do, and he/she deserves respect and praise for their clinical skills and abilities. However, fertility treatment is more than what happens at the clinic. There is so much more time, questions, at-home remedies and procedures that need to be addressed.

To have someone to talk to, to receive guidance from, to provide one-to-one support along your specific path to parenthood.

Someone who not only understands, but has experience and compassion because they, too, have been there.

Someone who helps you feel more in control again.

A fertility coach.

Certified fertility coaches are there to help increase the success rate for you as you try to have a baby. Depending on your circumstance and your needs, a fertility coach can influence reproductive health via nutrition, exercise, supplements, tracking, recommended medical care, emotional support, and much more. Whether struggling to have your first baby or your fourth, fertility coaches are trained to help you along your specific path.

It is important to understand that fertility coaches are not going to prescribe or guarantee anything, rather they are going to listen, advise, and assist you in ways that others cannot or simply do not have the time for. And don’t for one second think this is not a proven method of success. By using a coach, many people can find fertility success up to 27% faster than if not using a coach.

1 in 8 couples experience infertility. 1 in 4 couples experience miscarriage and loss, and 33% of US adults have used fertility treatments or know of someone who has. To be able to work directly with someone who understands medical terminology, who can help you come up with the right questions to ask and tests to have performed, who can help navigate the uncertain and help clear the misconceptions around different treatment options is critical to finding success in becoming a parent. Faith, love, and science hold a place in our hearts. Not isolation, confusion, and negativity. Provide your baby with the best you, inside and out. Because families are made every day, in many ways.
